South Lincoln’s Lady Eagles finished in the top spot of the Lady Falcons’ Pre-season Volleyball Tournament held over the weekend at Lincoln County High School.

South went through the double-elimination tournament without a loss.

The ladies won over Unity’s Lady Lions, 2-0, with scores of 25-23 and 25-18.

“This was probably the most competitive tournament we’ve had,” said Lady Falcon Coach Sara Grace Byrd. “Coming out of pool play, we had to go to three level of tie-breakers with some teams to determine the seeding for the tournament.

“I want to thank all the schools who participated,” she added. “The coaches, players and fan support was great; we couldn’t have ask for a better environment.”

Unity came out of pool play the top seed, followed by South Lincoln, Highland Rim, Flintville, Blanche and Covenant Christian Academy.

Highland Rim sent Unity to the losers’ bracket in their first match, 25-20 and 25-23. South Lincoln advanced with a 25-18, 25-4, win over Flintville.

In the next round, South Lincoln sent Highland Rim to the losers’ bracket with scores of 25-22, 25-17.

In the losers’ bracket, the Lady Lions stayed alive, defeating Blanche, 25-14, 25-8, and Flintville, 25-15, 25-23. The wins set up a rematch between Unity and Highland Rim. This time, it was the Lady Lions who finished on top, 25-22 and 25-13.

South Lincoln and Unity squared off for two competitive games in the championship, but it was the Lady Eagles who finished on top, 2-0.
