Lincoln County High School’s Falcon baseball team was on a roll headed to the Sectionals, just one win away from punching a ticket to the Spring Fling.

But, it wasn’t in the cards for LCHS, who dropped the game on the road to Bradley Central, 6-4. It was a seven-inning battle; no Falcon struck out at the plate.

With the game tied at 4-4 in the middle of the sixth, the Bears took the lead on a two-run homer in the bottom half of the inning. In the top of the seventh, the Falcons got the tying run at the plate but came up short in their final at bat.

The Falcons played three games last week. Monday’s big 4-3 win at home over Blackman in the first round of region action guaranteed LCHS two more games.

Tuesday, the Falcons dropped a 3-2 battle on the road to Riverdale before taking on Bradley Central Thursday night.

Lincoln County finishes its 2019 season with a District 8-AAA Tournament Championship, Sectional appearance and a 15-17 overall record.

“I couldn’t be more proud of these guys,” Coach Matt Allen said. “It’s been a roller coaster season, but down the stretch, when it mattered most, things started clicking as a team; we started hitting the ball.

“Our game with Bradley Central was a battle,” he added. “When every kid you send to the plate either walks or makes contact with the ball, I call that battling. A game with no strikeouts is amazing; to not win it is even more amazing. My hat’s off to Bradley; they made the plays they had to have defensively.

“We had a great crowd make the trips to Bradley Central and Riverdale,” he continued. “The crowd we had at home against Blackman was huge. It means a lot to the players and coaches when the community turns out to support our program, and it’s much appreciated. Seasons like this raise the bar for Falcon baseball moving forward.”
