Lincoln County High School’s Falcon football season came to an end Friday night with a 48-7 road trip loss to Hillsboro.
The 5-5 Falcons finished as the fourth seed in Region 5-5A and matched up with the one seed Hillsboro. The Burros brought size and speed for which Lincoln County had no answer, averaging over 300 pounds per man up front.
In other Region 5-5A play, Page won over Hillwood, 45-14; Shelbyville defeated Gallatin, 42-19; and Summit went down in a battle with Beech, 45-42.
“Considering all the emotion we had this week, I thought everyone did a tremendous job putting everything they could into it,” Coach Tim Johnson said. “We ran out of gas; of course, we were playing an excellent team that may very well be playing for a state championship.
“But, we’re looking at the bigger picture,” continued Coach Johnson. “I was telling these seniors right now how proud I am. I think they’ve gone a long way laying a foundation we’re going to be able to build upon. These guys have stepped up, given us all they had no matter what we needed, and that’s all as a coach you can really ask for. They have answered the call. They’ve had some tough years, and they kept working through it. My hat’s off to them.
“These kids, their families, their parents, the school, administration and the whole community – “‘m just so honored and blessed to be back here and give my all for Lincoln County.”
