Coach Palmer to be honored

Coach Alvin Palmer

Coach Alvin Palmer, head coach at Fayetteville High School, will be honored during a special celebration, “A Weekend Honoring the Man: Alvin Palmer”, set for the final weekend in October.

Palmer, who has coached for 41 seasons, will be inducted in the Hall of Fame at Lincoln County High School, where he coached for many years, during a ceremony on Thursday night, Oct. 25. Then, on Friday, Oct. 26, Coach Palmer’s last game as head coach at FHS will be held on Tiger Hill. Organizers of the celebration are encouraging all former players and coaches to attend.

On Saturday, Oct. 27, a reception honoring Coach Palmer will be held at FHS. Former players and coaches will be speaking. Cost is $10 per person, and proceeds will benefit Fayetteville High School football and the Fayetteville division of the American Cancer Society, in memory of Lucille Palmer.

Tickets will only be sold at the door, but those planning to attend the reception are encouraged to RSVP so that organizers can have an accurate head count for planning purposes. Please RSVP to 652-9302.
