Lady Tigers dominate in regular season finale


Fayetteville High School’s Lady Tigers dominated the visitors from Mt. Pleasant in the team’s regular season finale at home Thursday night.

FHS was on fire early, putting up four 3-pointers in the first quarter to build a 19-1 lead after one period of play. The Lady Tigers added another 10 in the second frame, while holding the visitors to only 4 to take a 29-5 lead into the half.

Mt. Pleasant had a better second half, putting 22 points on the board; however, Fayetteville’s Lady Tigers kept up the pace, adding 12 in the third and 11 in the final quarter en route to the 52-27 win.

The Lady Tigers had nine players put points on the board for the night, led by Za’naria Robinson with 10 and Hannah Giffin with 9.

Earlier in the week, the ladies fell to a tough Eagleville team, 36-49, on the road.

The Lady Tigers found themselves behind, 6-11, after one period of play; however, they came back with 10 points in the second quarter and held the Lady Eagles to only 5 to knot the score at 16-16 at the break.

Fayetteville was able to keep pace with Eagleville through the third period, trailing by only 3 points, 24-27, heading to the fourth; however, the hosts came up big in the final frame, putting up 22 points and holding the Lady Tigers to 12 to finish with the 49-36 win.

The Lady Tigers had balanced scoring in the game with Hannah Giffin and Hannah Litaker scoring 10 each and Za’naria Robinson adding 9.

With the win over Mt. Pleasant, the Lady Tigers claimed their 12th victory of the season, marking the second year in a row they have finished the regular season with a winning record and the only two times in school history.

Fayetteville was scheduled to be back in action Monday night, hosting Cascade at 7 p.m. in the first round of the district tournament.
