The Fayetteville Tigers boys played in the Richland Hall of Fame Tournament over Thanksgiving break.
In the first game, the Tigers matched up with the Harriman Blue Devils. Behind Brayden Hockett’s 20 points, Fayetteville cruised past the Devils, 54-33, for the win. Kentius Henderson also had nine points for the Tigers.
In the final game of the tourney, Fayetteville met the host team, the Richland Raiders.
After a back and forth first half, Richland held a 29-24 lead at halftime. After falling further behind in the third quarter, Fayetteville made a late comeback. Hockett scored 12 of his game high 20 points in the fourth quarter. The Raiders converted 10 of 14 free throws in the fourth quarter to hold off the Tigers 59-56. Teondre Love had nine points in the game for Fayetteville.
Fayetteville finished out the week with a road game against the Columbia Academy Bulldogs.
The Tigers started slow against the Bulldogs and fell behind, 29-8, at the half. They found their offense in the second half, but it was too little too late as the Tigers fell, 74-37. Camaurionn Taylor and Hockett led Fayetteville with nine points each.
Fayetteville returned to the court Nov. 30, at home against South Pittsburg.
The Tigers, now with their full roster of players, will have some much-needed practice time to get all the new pieces in the right places.
