After finishing as Region 4-AAA runner-up the previous week in team tennis the individual tournament was held last week at Adam’s Center at Old Fort Park in Murfreesboro where LCHS matched up with Central Magnet and Siegel.
In singles action, Lucy Higgins punched her ticket to this year’s Spring Fling. On Monday she defeated Helen Smith from Central Magnet 6-2, 6-2. Tuesday she earned the spot finishing on top of Kate Hall from Blackman, 6-4, 7-5.
On Thursday of this week, she takes on Maddie Peters, a junior from Brighton High School in the quarterfinals. It’ll be Higgins’s second state tournament appearance after qualifying in 2019 in doubles with Julia Marsh. It’s the fourth time in school history tennis has advanced to the big dance. In 2000-2001 Jonathan Brown (now LCHS tennis coach) advanced in the quarter-finals.

“I’m proud of the season we’ve had,” Coach Jonathan Brown said. “Both Carlie and Claire improved so much to be able to finish their tennis careers in the region tournament. Caden and Sam both finished up great senior years/careers since they started playing in middle school. I am excited for Carter and Coleman to continue to improve and play a lot this summer and be ready to get us back again next season since they both will return as juniors next season.”
