William Maury Grissom, 85, of Petersburg, passed away on Friday (Jan. 11, 2019) at his residence. Mr. Grissom was born on April 20, 1933 in Maury County to the late Leonard Vanburean and Mary McDaniel Jones Grissom. He served in the United States Navy and was a member of First Baptist Church of Petersburg. He loved hunting raccoons and horseback riding. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Juanita Hopkins Grissom; sons, Wayne (Lynn) Grissom of Cornersville, Dane (Angie) Grissom of Howell Hill and Lane (Delane) Grissom of Chapel Hill; grandchildren, Michelle (Jeff) McPherson, Dara Dixon, Andrew (Linda) Grissom, Anna Grissom, Brad (Kelli) Grissom, Chad (Jessica) Grissom, Wendy (Chris) Sawyers and Kristen Curtis; twelve great-grandchildren; sisters, Thelma Frugoli of Idaho and Jean Holder of Cornersville; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by  his sister, Jane Tucker, and his brothers, Van Grissom and Larry Grissom. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 14, at Higgins Funeral Home with Bro. Tim Forsythe and Bro. Billy Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in Old Orchard Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 5 until 8 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 13, at Higgins Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8517. Higgins Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
