Nancy Jane (Counts) Mitchell, 84, of Flintville, passed away on Wednesday (Feb. 6, 2019). She is preceded in death by her parents, Horace and Mamie Counts of Flintville, and sister, Willa Jo (Counts) Patterson of Fayetteville. She is survived by husband of 66 years, Melvin Clarence Mitchell, Sr.; three daughters, Dinah Mitchell-Brown (Jim) of Nashville, Wanda Mitchell Barnes (Phil) of Franklin and Judy Mitchell Barnette (Rick) of Franklin; one step-son, Melvin Clarence Mitchell, Jr., (Maggie) of Fayetteville. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Kelly Barnes Weaver (Brandon) of Nolensville, Kimberly Barnes Wright (Drew) of Spring Hill, McKenzie Barnette Schumpert (Grant) of Birmingham, Ala., Haley Barnette of Franklin, Faith Mitchell of Fayetteville; and three great-grandchildren, Hutch Weaver and Anniston Weaver of Nolensville and Magnolia Wright of Spring Hill. She is also survived by her sister, Vicky Counts Taylor (Edward) of Fayetteville. Nancy grew up in Flintville and attended Flintville High School. After living in Hammond, Ind., for 19 years and then St. Robert, Mo., and Ardmore, Ala., she returned to Flintville to live in the home in which Melvin had grown up. After being a homemaker for 26 years, she earned an associate degree from MTSU in medical transcription. She was a medical transcriptionist at UAB Medical School of Medicine, Huntsville Campus, for 13 years until her retirement. After her retirement, she dedicated her life to her family, especially loving her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an active member of Stewarts Chapel Baptist Church where she was a leader in the AWANA program and loved supporting her husband as he went on many mission trips. She stayed at home and was a prayer warrior for the entire team. Funeral service is Saturday, Feb. 9, at 3 p.m. at Gallant-Riverview Funeral Home with Rev. Don Pierson, Rev. Danny Bell and Rev. Sam Gamble officiating. Burial will follow in Flintville Cemetery. Visitation is Friday from 5 until 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given in her name to the Mitchell Memorial Fund at Stewarts Chapel Baptist Church, Flintville, TN or St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
