Lester “Mr. Buddy” Huff Nichols, 89, of Petersburg, passed away on Wednesday (Nov. 6, 2019) in Shelbyville. Lester was born on Feb. 9, 1930 in Lincoln County to the late Moses Huff and Lena Belle Gibson Nichols. He lived in the Po Grab Community his entire life and worked as a beef cattle farmer and a bus driver for Lincoln County Schools. Mr. Buddy started driving buses when he was a senior in high school and then full time from 1962 until he retired in 2010. He was a member of Hannah's Gap Baptist Church where he was a Sunday School superintendent, deacon and treasurer. Survivors include his daughter, Alice (Todd) Swinford of Petersburg; grandchildren, Jordan Lane, Austin (Zola) Lopeman, Justin (Brandy) Swinford and Katie Swinford; brother, Don (Elna Ann) Nichols of Nashville; cousin, Hazel Foster of Shelbyville; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 11, at Higgins Funeral Home with Bro. Matthew Hunter and Bro. John Sorrells officiating. Burial will follow in Old Orchard Cemetery next to his wife, Margaret Lorraine Barrett Nichols. Visitation with the family will be held from 4 until 8 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 10, at Higgins Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959 or Hannah's Gap Baptist Church, 283 Bledsoe Rd., Petersburg, TN 37144.
