A Lincoln County woman died this morning as the result of a fire at her home, located at 78 East Prospect Road.
Volunteer firefighters from across the county responded to the call at approximately 7:45 a.m. this morning. The woman, who was in her mid-50’s, had called for assistance from within the home after the fire started, said Lincoln County Fire Chief Doug Campbell.
“She did call 911,” Campbell said. “We tried to get to her, but we couldn’t reach her in time.”
Units from several county fire departments responded to the call, as well as other firefighters. Also called to the scene were the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department and the county medical examiner.
“I’ve also contacted the state fire marshal’s office, which should be here shortly,” said Campbell, explaining that the cause of the fire is under investigation. “We’re not sure at this point what caused the fire. It may prove to be indeterminable.”
The woman, whose identity authorities weren’t releasing this morning, was apparently limited in her mobility, according to authorities, who also noted that an autopsy will be conducted.
