FPD Patch

Shots were fired as officers with the Fayetteville Police Department responded to a domestic disturbance call at Madden Homes early this morning.

The call came in at 1:30 a.m., said Commander Coby Templeton with FPD, and as officers arrived and began to enter residence, a number of shots rang out.

“The suspect had opened fire with a long rifle,” Templeton said, adding that the officers immediately began to back out of the doorway. While no officers were struck by the gunfire, one was injured as he exited the residence. He was treated and released later this morning at Lincoln Medical Center.

Just after firing the shots, the suspect escaped out the back door of the home, said the commander, noting the suspect was later apprehended on West Campbell Street in Fayetteville. Authorities took him into custody between 7:30 and 8 a.m. this morning.

John Adam Quarles has been charged in the case. Quarles is being held at the Lincoln County Jail, and the case remains under investigation.

Immediately after the call that shots had been fired went out, city and county officers from across the community responded. In addition, the FPD Special Operations Response Team (SORT), Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team, Madison County canine units, and Winchester Police Department also responded.

“All the responding officers did an outstanding job,” said Templeton. “We very much appreciate their response and support.”
