Shelton takes command

Capt. Nevada Shelton, a graduate of Lincoln County High School and member of the West Point Class of 2013, was recently chosen from among his peers to command Alpha Company 2916th Aviation Battalion, Ft. Irwin, Cal.

Shelton commands nine U60 Blackhawk helicopters with over 85 pilots, soldiers and support staff responsible for flying all VIP missions west of the State of Nevada. “We fly and support all travel of everyone from the President’s cabinet, Joint Chiefs and Pentagon staff officials, politicians, and Hollywood personalities, whomever has U.S. Army business West of Las Vegas we handle it,” he said.

He recently flew the vice chief of staff of the U.S. Army to a series of briefings up and down the State of California.

“I am very proud of my command opportunity and strive every day to fulfill our mission and support my soldiers 200 percent,” he said.

A third generation aviator, Shelton is the son of Capt. Scott and former Fayetteville mayor Gwen Shelton. He is the grandson of Sara Shelton of Fayetteville and the late Jean Williams Hall.
