A registered sex offender was indicted by the Lincoln County Grand Jury Tuesday, following a lengthy investigation by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department.
Martin Dale Cleveland, 60, was charged with was charged with 32 counts of aggravated sexual battery, involving two victims under the age of 13 at the time of the offense, according to local authorities.
“We began investigating him prior to him being in prison,” said Tammie MacDonald, an investigator with the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department, Monday. “We were made aware by the Department of Children’s Services. It was reported to them.”
Cleveland, of 960 State Route 212, Tipton, was charged in 2014 with aggravated sexual battery for violent offenses against children in Smyrna. He began serving time in the Tennessee Department of Corrections beginning Oct. 16, 2014 and his current sentence does not end until May 25, 2023.
He was held at the Lincoln County Jail on $250,000 bond, and following his presentment to the Grand Jury last week, he was released back to the Tennessee Department of Corrections. Court Officer Martha Mitchell was the arresting officer.
“His next court date is May 5th,” said MacDonald.
