A two-vehicle accident in New Market, Ala., early Saturday afternoon claimed the life of a Petersburg woman.
According to authorities, Patricia Elizabeth (Patti) Pope, 74, of Petersburg was pronounced dead at the scene. The accident occurred at 12:35 p.m. at the intersection of Butler Road and Buddy Williamson Road, just a couple of miles north of Hazel Green, Ala.
Pope was driving a 2010 Toyota Camry, which collided with a 2009 GMC Sierra pickup driven by an 18-year-old New Market man, authorities said. The 18-year-old, along with two children who were passengers in Pope’s Camry, were transported to area hospitals for treatment of their injuries.
No other details were available earlier this week, as Alabama State Troopers continued to investigate; however, residents in the area said accidents are not uncommon at the intersection. County authorities told area media that officials would be taking a closer look at the intersection to see if anything can be done to make it safer.
At press time Monday, The Times had not received any information in regard to funeral arrangements.
