The Fayetteville-Lincoln County Public Library is hosting an essay contest entitled “My Public Library Is Important to Me Because …”

“We want you to tell us why you value your public library,” said Jillian Rael, library director, of the contest, noting that it is open to all Lincoln County students in grades four through 12, including home-school students.

Essays will be judged in three age groups: group one, students in grades four through six, group two, students in grades seven through nine, and group three, students in grades 10 through 12.

First place in each group will receive a Nook eReader, and library staff will assist in loading the READS program. First place essays will also appear in The Elk Valley Times.

Second place students in each age group will receive a $10 gift certificate to The Book Inn.

Essays should be limited to 500 words or less, said Mrs. Rael, explaining the guidelines for the contest.

The entry deadline is Wednesday, March 27, and essays may be delivered in person to the Fayetteville/Lincoln County Public Library at 306 Elk Avenue North in Fayetteville, by mail to the library at P.O. Box 599, Fayetteville, 37334, or via email to
