Fire guts

While the frame of this Hedgemont Avenue home is still standing, the Saturday evening fire gutted the home. No one was home when the fire started.

Fire gutted a single-story, wood-frame home in Fayetteville early Saturday evening.

Fayetteville Fire and Rescue received a page about 7:30 p.m., of a fire located at 414 Hedgemont Avenue.

Fayetteville Fire responded with four trucks and 15 personnel, and while they managed to save the exterior of the house, the interior was a total loss for the occupants.

Two residents live at that address, but no one was home at the time of the fire, said Chief Jim Baldwin.

“We haven’t found out the cause yet, but we believe it started in the back bedroom,” Baldwin said, noting that the Red Cross was contacted.
