Curtis, American hero, memorialized

An American hero, Lincoln County’s Lewis Wesley Curtis, Sr., was memorialized in remarks, tributes and resolutions during services Saturday at Gallant-Riverview Funeral Home. Here, the U.S. Army Honor Guard presents the flag that had draped her father’s casket to Terri Cage, seated with her husband, Al, and oldest son, Colin. A veteran of World War II and the Korean War, Mr. Curtis served in the 24th Infantry Regiment, known historically as Buffalo Soldiers. In his later years, he served as the national president of the 24th Infantry Regimental Combat Team Association. Mr. Curtis died Jan. 23 at the age of 92 in Knoxville.
