Local law enforcement agencies have had several reports of counterfeit money being passed primarily at convenience stores during the month of November.
According to Investigator Nathan Massey of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department, two individuals, a white man and woman driving a white Dodge Caravan with Alabama tags, have passed $20 and $10 counterfeit bills at several stores. They have purchased lottery tickets and gas and have been captured on camera at the stores.
At one Huntsville Highway store in the city both people purchased lottery tickets with fake $20 bills and received change for the bills. At another store they attempted to purchase gas with a $20 bill, but the cashier told them it was counterfeit after she marked the bill. They then paid with a $10.
Massey requests that anyone with information about the two individuals may call him at 931 433-9821 or call Lincoln County Area Crime Stoppers at 931-433-7867 – callers will remain anonymous.
