5 Firefighters recognized

Fire Chief Tony Kimbrough, fire fighters Adam Ratley, Emma Alexander, Alex Mitchell, Noelan Alcorn and Daniel Underwood, and Capt. David Bergman receive recognition during the Board of Mayor and Alderman meeting for their prompt response and actions that saved the life of an unresponsive patient.

Five Fayetteville firefighters were recognized during the Board of Mayor and Alderman meeting for their prompt response and actions that saved the life of an unresponsive patient on Saturday, August 28.

Fire Department Captain David Bergman presented an Outstanding Achievement Certificate to Noelan Alcorn, Emma Alexander, Alex Mitchell and Daniel Underwood commending them when they were dispatched to assist Lincoln County Emergency Management System (EMS) responders Tommy Cross and Jacob Painter. Letters of accommodation were to be placed in the personnel records of each firefighter.

Bergman said that both Engine One and Engine Two responded to the scene that day. The firefighters “dawned their personal protective equipment and rapidly assessed the situation. They found a patient that was unresponsive and not breathing, without a pulse. The crew quickly connected the AED, analyzed and shocked the patient before the ambulance crew arrived. They immediately began CPR. The patient was placed in the ambulance and continued to receive aggressive urgent care. After a rather intense battle, the patient was resuscitated and transported to Vanderbilt for more comprehensive treatment. Their actions are credited for saving the life of the patient.”

Captain Bergman said he was astonished by the prompt response of all members on the scene. “Their treatment exemplified the true care and commitment for which we strive at the Fayetteville Fire Department,” he said. “They are truly second to none. To the following personnel, thank you for your care and dedication to the citizens of Fayetteville. Your efforts did not go unnoticed.”
