Fourteen members of the Lincoln County Trap Team competed at the 2022 Academics, Integrity, and Marksmanship (AIM) Grand National Youth Trapshooting Championships held July 31 through Aug. 2, at the World Shooting Recreation Complex in Sparta, Illinois. More than 1,500 youth from around the nation competed in the events. This year’s Lincoln County team was comprised of both experienced competitors and beginners. Coach Mark Horton said they all made this year’s trip a memorable one. The team brought home two team awards, five individual awards, and some personal best scores. Lincoln County’s sub-junior squad won national champion of the Sub-Junior Class C Singles Team event, winning by one target, with a score of 890 out of 1000 targets. Lincoln County’s junior gold squad was the national runner-up of the Junior Gold Class C Singles Team event that was settled by a reverse run tie breaker after hitting 959 out of 1000 targets. Justin Ellis, Matthew Butcher, and Levi Biles each brought home multiple individual awards.
“We made more trips to the awards stage at this year’s AIM Grand than we ever have. I want to thank everyone involved for making this such a great year for our team” said Coach Horton.
