The Fayetteville Lions Club concluded another year of participation in the Lions International Peace Poster Contest. Students are encouraged to share their vision of peace and inspire the world through art and creativity. This year’s contest theme was “Lead with Compassion.” The contest is available annually to students of ages 11, 12 and 13 in Fayetteville and Lincoln County schools, including home school programs.
Fayetteville Lions congratulated the local winners, each of whom was presented a certificate, a framed photo of their poster, and a check for $100 from the Fayetteville Club. Local winners were: Summer Petty, Blanche School; Avery Williamson, Chestnut Ridge Academy; Kaiden Flemmings, Fayetteville Middle School; Zoi Wright, Highland Rim School; Dalton Miller, Lincoln Central Academy; Kaitlyn Tedder, Merdianville Middle School; Maci Wilbanks, Merdianville Middle School; Wylo Brown, Riverside Christian Academy; Abigail Lyon, Riverside Christian Academy Home School; Kayleigh Baham, South Lincoln School; and Abigail Speegle, Unity School.
All winning posters were forwarded to the Lions District 12S Headquarters to compete with entries from other Middle Tennessee Lions Clubs. District Winners were announced at the District 12-S Convention at Cumberland University in Carthage, Tennessee, on February 11th. Avery Williamson from Chestnut Ridge Academy won District 1st Place, $500. Abigail Lyon from Riverside Christian Academy - Homeschool won 2nd Place, $250. Wylo Brown from Riverside Christian Academy won 3rd Place, $100.
Avery’s poster also competed but unfortunately did not win at the next level of State of Tennessee. The State of Tennessee winner then competes at the top level at our International Lions Headquarters where the international grand prize winner receives a cash award of $5,000 plus a trip to a special award ceremony at the United Nations Headquarters.
Lion Cal Perkins, the Contest Chairperson said: “We had great participation this year. We thank all 48 students that entered a poster, as well as the teachers and parents who supported them. The creativity and quality of artistic expression was inspiring to the judges at the District level.”
