Fayetteville ARP Church Choir and community friends will present “Christmas Oratorio” on Sunday, Dec. 2 at 7 p.m.
The event is free and open to the public.
“Christmas Oratorio” was written by Camille Saint-Saëns in 1858. Saint-Saëns was one of the most productive and famous French composers of the 19th century.
“Christmas Oratorio” is an intimate blend of musical styles – narrative recitatives, folk-like melodies, passionate solo passages and beautiful choral writing. Written for a full choir, soloists, strings, organ and harp, it is based on texts from the Old and New Testaments, the Psalms, and the Gospels. Its distinctive chamber music-like instrumentation, with lyrical solos and full choral parts, combine to create a pastoral mood that has led this beautiful work to become one of the most performed works by Saint-Saëns.
The church is located at 1720 Huntsville Highway. For more information, contact the church office at 931-433-5205.
