Theresa Morrison, MD, Fayetteville’s only family practice/obstetrician, has been appointed to the Tennessee Maternal Mortality Review and Prevention Team for a term of three years.
According to the Tennessee Department of Health, the purpose of this committee is to identify opportunities to prevent maternal deaths and promote women’s health in Tennessee. The expert panel will review maternal deaths, defined as all deaths of women while pregnant or within one year after the end of the pregnancy, and report recommendations for policy changes that would promote the safety of women and prevent maternal deaths.
“I am honored to have been chosen to serve on this committee,” said Dr. Morrison. “I appreciate the opportunity to work alongside these highly respected peers who share my passion for providing high quality, patient-focused care to all women.”
Morrison will serve on the committee comprised of a multidisciplinary team of experts with representation from public health, OB-GYN, maternal and fetal medicine, nurse-midwifery, medical examiners, mental health, domestic violence, hospital patient safety, anesthesiology, neonatology, pediatrics, nursing, and the Tennessee Senate and House of Representatives. The team will meet at least quarterly to review all pregnancy-related cases.
