The Hands of Mercy’s Back to School Mobile Pantry, an event that offers free food for the first 250 families and free backpacks, all on a first-come, first-serve basis, will be held Saturday, July 21, at the Lincoln County Fairgrounds.
Distribution begins at 10 a.m., and volunteers are asked to arrive by 8:45 a.m.
Registration will start at 8 a.m. and go to 10 a.m. for food and backpacks, and you will need valid identification and proof of Lincoln County residency for both. All registration will be in one line, so you will be in the same line for food or backpacks.
“The children MUST be PRESENT at 8 a.m. to receive an armband for a backpack,” said Tina Hudson, who heads the Hands of Mercy Outreach Center. “All distribution of food and backpacks won’t start until 10 a.m. That way families can stay together while they are waiting to register and get their armband.
“We are doing our registration process different this year so we are really trying to stress this point that if you are coming for food or backpacks, you will be in one line, and your children must be present to get their armband to receive a backpack,” she said. “The distribution of shoes will start at 10 a.m. and those receiving shoes have already been pre-registered at an earlier date. Volunteers please be there by 8:45 a.m.”
The shoes and backpacks are being provided by Hope Assembly of God. The school supplies that are in the backpacks are provided by Hands of Mercy. The Fayetteville College of Cosmetology will be on site providing free haircuts for the children.
“Thank you to everyone who make this day possible to bless the families and children in Lincoln County!” Hudson added. “We couldn’t do it without all of us coming together to give of our time, resources, money and abilities to make this day a reality!”
