Bright Lights & Festive Nights will be Friday, Dec. 3, at Stonebridge Park with a tree lighting ceremony at 6 p.m. Christmas trees will be on display along Shawnee Avenue and Stonebridge Park for 20 days.
The event is sponsored by Fayetteville Parks and Recreation. Parks officials invite businesses, groups, nonprofits to promote your business or group and individuals to remember a loved one to sponsor a Christmas tree. This is also a great opportunity to participate in making a new holiday tradition for Fayetteville. Only 24 spaces are available.
Deadline to sponsor a tree is 4 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 24. Application forms are available through Parks & Recreation Department, 1203 Winchester Hwy.
Trees need to be an 8-foot Douglas fir, provided by the sponsor, who also must provide their own decorations, LED lighting, timer and cord. One 110 outlet will be provided for electricity.
Participants begin decorating trees Saturday, Nov. 29 and must be completed by 4 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3. A t-post with wire will be provided for attaching the tree. Parks and Recreation recommends using zip ties, string and other items to secure tree decorations, which should be weather resistant.
Gift card prizes will be given for first, second and third place winner totaling $75, $50 and $25, respectively.
Officials also recommend periodically checking on your tree until time to take down the tree, which must be completed between January 3-8. Event sponsors are not responsible for any damage, lost or stolen decorations.
The trees will be recycled after Sunday, Jan. 9.
