Warm weather brings a buzz of excitement to the Fayetteville/Lincoln County Public Library. We have so many things in the works right now, and it is gearing up to be a great summer.
First up on Tuesday, May 13, at 6 p.m., we will host FoL speaker Betty Bolte, whose original talk was rescheduled because of the storms. She will be speaking about her latest books with Lincoln County ties, as well as the process of historical fiction writing.
Our next speaker will be Dr. John Kvach on May 27, and he will be discussing his new book on Debow’s Review as well as the publication’s role during the Civil War.
On May 20, we are hosting a mini-health fair with representatives from Lincoln Medical Center onsite to distribute information and measure blood pressure. We will also have representation from aromatherapy to talk about the benefits of essential oils and more. We will wrap up that night by hosting a special talk by Tri-State Chiropractic (located in Parks City) where we will learn about controlling stress and disease with our busy lifestyles.
All of these events are completely free and open to all.
For the kids, we just had our Barnyard Bully story time with local author Donna Taylor and Maria, the mini-pony, and it was great fun.
Next up on Saturday, May 17, we will host the first meeting of the Junior Garden Club where we will learn about our special gardens and plant our first seeds and bulbs. Bring your own gloves! All children are welcome to come out and take part. We will utilize this garden throughout the summer to learn about caring for all types of plants.
On Wednesday, May 21, we are hosting a volunteer orientation for any parents, teens and community partners that would like to volunteer any of their time to our Summer Reading Program activities.
On Saturday, May 31, we will have our kick-off party and participant orientation for Summer Reading as well. We will be mad scientists as we learn about this year’s theme and the activities we will host. Parents may also sign their children up on May 31, but registration officially opens on May 12.
We will host programs on Tuesdays and Saturdays, both at 10 a.m., throughout the month of June, and on Thursdays and Saturdays for teens in the month of July.
Tuesday afternoons we will have science-themed movies all summer long, and Wednesdays will remain dedicated to regular Story Times and Explorers Club. We have great programs in store from local groups, including some from local high schools and UAH.
On Saturday, June 28, we will have planetarium shows provided by Sci-Quest and again on Saturday, July 26. Stay tuned; we are going to be busy this summer!
