We have had many requests here at FLCPL for adult computer classes since I arrived in January. Unfortunately, prior to this point I have simply not had the time to devote to planning out and implementing these classes. But, today I am so pleased to announce that we will begin our adult computer classes on Oct. 29, thanks to the time devoted by our staffer Jena Gray.
This first go-round of classes will encompass beginners’ lessons on Microsoft Office products and will run as a series each Tuesday night at 6 p.m. until Nov. 12. First off will be Microsoft Word; Nov. 5 will be beginning Excel; and Nov. 12 will introduce Microsoft Publisher. Each class will last approximately one hour, and you may either bring a personal laptop or borrow one from the library.
Pre-registration is required as space is very limited, so interested persons may call (931) 433-3286 or come by the library to sign up. A schedule of classes is in the works for next year, and we are interested in hearing what types of computer classes our community would be interested in, so please let us know. Thus far we are floating ideas including: basic computer skills, online banking, social media sites, READS set up, email account creation and usage, and genealogy research. We would appreciate the community’s feedback on these topics or others.
Good news to our avid readers! It’s time once again for book ordering, and we welcome your requests. I will be placing orders regularly each month until May of next year with the intention of trying to catch new titles shortly after their release. Book request forms are at the circulation desk, so tell us what you want! We will also be working with the local schools to determine what kids may need to help them with Common Core Standards.
Coming up are some exciting events at the Library. Oct. 5 is Star Wars READS Day at 10 a.m.; Oct. 22 is a homeschool meet & greet at 6 p.m.; and Nov. 16 is our Catching Fire release party beginning at 6 p.m. We hope to see you at one of our great events!
