Michael Whisenant, Fayetteville Public Utilities board member, was recognized for successfully completing the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) Board Leadership Program and the NRECA Credentialed Cooperative Director Program.
NRECA’s board training consists of issue- and skill-based courses for electric utility directors. Directors must first obtain the Credentialed Cooperative Director Certificate and then complete a total of 10 additional training credits for the more advanced Board Leadership Certification.
“The board leadership training helps our directors understand the fundamentals of the electric business and the duties and responsibilities of being a leader in the utility industry,” Dye said. “Even though this training is offered by NRECA, our board directors can apply the leadership and strategic-planning fundamentals they learn to all FPU utility departments.”
To complete the training, Whisenant attended several required one- or two-day courses and passed exams on course content.
Whisenant was appointed to FPU’s board of directors in 2012 following his election to the Fayetteville Board of Mayor and Aldermen.
