Veterans mark D-Day, group’s anniversary

Col. William D. RutleyVietnam Era Veterans will focus on D-Day as their main theme at the June 6 meeting as that will be the 69th anniversary of D-Day.

June 6 will also be the third anniversary of Vietnam Era Veterans of Shelbyville/Bedford County.

(Ret., USAF) Col. Bill Rutley will be the event’s featured speaker. Col. Rutley was a former base commander at Arnold Engineering Development Center (Arnold A.F.B.). AEDC, known for engine, testing and development of many military jet engines. The jet engines powered many of the fighter jets in which Col. Rutley flew or flew in.

Col. Rutley is one of the comrades of the Vietnam Era Veterans and is a previous speaker to the group. There is much in which Col. Rutley has been involved and has knowledge of from his lustrous career in the U.S. Air Force.

All veterans are invited to hear Col. Rutley and participate in the events planned for the third anniversary of Vietnam Era Veterans. The meeting will take place on Thursday, June 6, at 6:30 p.m. at the Shelbyville VFW post, the new host location of meetings. The Shelbyville VFW is located on Depot Street (also known as Wartrace Pike) in Shelbyville just off the Tullahoma Highway.

Cost for the event is $10, which includes a home cooked meal by Joe Gordon, owner and renowned chef at many restaurants in this area.
