A “Double Trouble” Hunter Pace timed trail ride will be held Saturday afternoon, Sept. 29, at Hidden Hollow Farm, 269 Good Hollow Road in Coldwater.
The event will benefit the Penn-MaryDel Hounds of Cedar Knob.
Entries should be made on the day of the event. Check-in starts at 12 noon, and the first team will be out at 2 p.m. One night free boarding is available, but space is limited.
A hunter pace is a low-key competitive event derived from foxhunting. Teams of two or three riders follow an outdoor course laid out over the terrain which is meant to simulate the riding conditions encountered during a foxhunt – that is a mixture of gaits that a foxhunter typically uses as a fox’s scent is found and followed by hounds through open country and along wooded trails.
On the day of the event, the team which completes the course in a time closest to the ideal is placed first.
Registration requires a $30 fee per rider, a signed release form and current negative coggins.
A potluck dinner will follow. Everyone is asked to bring a covered dish and drinks to share. Plates and silverware will be provided.
Awards to be given include: time closest to pre-determined optimum time in field hunter pair; pleasure trail rider pair, best turned out pair; youngest pair; wisest senior pair; most humorous pair; and best covered dish.
