The Take-a-Kid-Fishing Rodeo will be held Saturday, July 13, from 6 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Tims Ford Bass Club and the Red Roof Pavilion in the Winchester City Park, Winchester.

A Casting Kids Contest will take place from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.

It’s a fun day for the kids and the whole family. They can fish off the banks or in a boat on Tims Ford Lake and its tributaries.

The grand prize to be awarded is a Tracker Pro 165 30HP 4S Mercury Outboard Motor, a Motor Guide Trolling Motor, an X50 Depth Finder and batteries and a trailer. A second grand prize of a Wii station will be awarded, and every child who catches and turns in a fish is eligible to win, sponsored by Builder’s Supply. There will be three $100 drawings, a recliner awarded, certificates for dinner at the Hard Dock Cafe at Tims Ford Marina and more.

Other adult prizes awarded include a gas grill, passes for a horse ride, hunting passes and other prize packages.

Five places will be awarded in each category: Bass, Crappie, Rough Fish, Bream, Rockfish and Walleye. There is also a preschool category for children ages one through five.

Benny Hull, host of Stump Bumper Outdoors Radio & TV Shows, will be guest MC along with Joanie Anderkin of the Tri-Lakes Area Fishing & Hunting Report, who will be broadcasting live (in Bun’s memory) on WCDT — 1340 A.M. & www. WCDT 1340. There will also be some very special guests this year, Dolly the Tracking Dog and her human partner, Stacy Stevenson from TWRA.

Watch for the official Take-A-Kid Fishing Pontoon out on the lake passing out cold Sun Drops and food coupons, as well as filming and talking with all the young fishing girls and boys. Don’t forget about the big Hula Hoop Contest. There will be trophies and great prizes this year.

Other sponsors for the event include Mercury, Wal-Mart, Bass Pro Shops, Tracker Boat Center, Russell Barnett, HC and Sun Drop.

Take-A-Kid Fishing Rodeo is one of the largest and oldest fishing tournaments for kids ages 16 and younger. Every child that has a parent or guardian purchase for them a $10 ticket is a big winner (one ticket per child). They receive a free Take-A-Kid Fishing Rodeo T-Shirt.
