STEP, Inc. (Support and Training for Exceptional Parents) will be the focus of a free workshop sponsored by Lincoln County Child Development Center.

STEP is a federally-funded program that offers services to families who have children of all ages with disabilities. The workshop is designed to provide information, training and support to families of infants, toddlers and young children with disabilities.

If you would like answers to the following questions, this workshop is for you: “What can I expect when my child is transitioning from services at age three to services in their local school system?” “What services and protections are available for my child under IDEA (The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act) beginning at birth?” “What placement options are available for pre-school children with disabilities?” and “Are there steps that can be taken to ensure a smooth transition between preschool services and kindergarten?”

Parents of young children with disabilities who may need special education are invited to come out for the free workshop sponsored by the Child Development Center in Fayetteville-Lincoln County. The workshop will be held at the Child Development Center, 1000 Washington Street West, Suite C, on Tuesday, April 15, from 5:30 until 8:30 p.m.

All materials used at the workshop are free to parents of children with disabilities. If you are interested in attending, please register by calling Teresa Winnette at 931-684-8681 as space is limited for this workshop.

STEP also provides help over the telephone when you have specific questions. Parents who ask to be put on the mailing list will receive the quarterly newsletter STEP Ahead. All these services are free to parents who have a child with a disability.

If you have a question or need more information, call the regional coordinator in this area, Joey Ellis, at 615-463-2310, or for general information call toll-free at 1-800-280-STEP (7837).
