At that time, the church helped launch what would be the newest chapter of the Imagination Library program – the Imagination Library of Lincoln County – with its financial support and leadership.
“One year before the program began, St. Mary’s made a commitment to give $1,500 each year for the first five years of the program,” said Teresa Brown, IL president here. “The next five years the church would give $1,000 each year.
“The Outreach Committee wanted to teach a man to fish so he would never go hungry,” Brown continued, commending St. Mary Magdalene as well as the church’s Outreach Committee. “The impact of this program is for the youngest in our community.”
Regardless of income, the program encourages all children to read. The parent and child bond is strengthened as they read together.
Since 2005, the Imagination Library here has mailed 113,023 books into the homes of children in Lincoln County. Currently, 1,278 children are enrolled in the program.
