South Pacific

The Community Playhouse, Inc. is moving into its 58th year of providing live theater entertainment for Tullahoma and the surrounding communities. During its recent End of the Year Annual Picnic and Membership Meeting, playhouse members elected new officers for the year and the 2012-2013 season of plays was announced.

Considered to be one of the great Broadway Musicals, South Pacific, will be offered to playhouse audiences on April 5, 6, 7, and 12, 13, 14, 2013.  This Rodgers and Hammerstein musical is based upon James A. Michener’s Pulitzer Prize-winning book, “Tales of the South Pacific.”  The story centers on an American nurse stationed at a U. S. Naval base during World Ward II who falls in love with an expatiate French plantation owner.  South Pacific provides a wealth of well remembered songs including: “Some Enchanted Evening,” “Younger Than Springtime,” “Bali Ha’i,” and “There is Nothin’ Like a Dame.”

Directors for South Pacific, Peggy Heyden and Beverly Long will be seeking a large cast of men and women singers and dancers.  Auditions dates will be announced in the near future.

Season tickets are on sale now with prices set as follows:  Adults, $40; Seniors and Students, $35; and Children (12 and under), $25.  To assure the best seats available, people are encouraged to purchase season tickets early.  For information about how to purchase tickets call one of the playhouse numbers:  931-581-7767 or 931-455-0620. For more detailed information about the playhouse and its activities, go to the playhouse website www.communityplayhouse.org.

Membership in the Community Playhouse, Inc. is open to all interested in participating in local theater activities.  Membership dues are $5 per year per family.  Those wishing to join are encouraged to attend regularly scheduled meetings on the fourth Tuesday of each month.  Meetings begin at 6:30 and are held at South Jackson Civic Center.
