Shelton promoted to captain while on deployment

First Lt. Nevada Fraley Shelton (left) is promoted to the rank of captain by his commanding officer while on de-ployment in the Philippines.

Fayetteville son, 1st Lt. Jacob Nevada Fraley Shelton, a 2013 honors graduate of the U.S. Military Academy and 2014 graduate of U.S. Army helicopter training, was recently promoted to captain in minimum time while on deployment in the Philippines.

He is the son of Capt. Scott and Vice Mayor Gwen Shelton of Fayetteville.

Since earning his wings flying the U60 Blackhawk, Nevada has participated in joint training exercises in Thailand, flown support missions on the DMZ in South Korea, and most recently was chosen to fly support for the vice president during his visit to Indonesia.

Currently Nevada is flying joint training exercises with the Philippine military.

He is a platoon leader in C Company Forward Support Medevac 3-25 Aviation Regiment based at Wheeler Field, Hawaii.
