The John R. Massey Camp #152, Sons of Confederate Veterans members from the Starnes Brigade portrayed Gen. Nathan B. Forrest and his mounted escorts during the “History on the Square” event.
This gave onlookers a glimpse into what a mounted Confederate Calvary looked like during the War Between the States.
SCV commemorative coins and booklets were given out to the visitors of the event.
Many school children attended and were able to ask all the questions they could think of and got up close to the horses and battle equipment.
A program was held and displays shown on the courthouse lawn until early afternoon, where an information table was set up in front of the Confederate Monument, and Confederate re-enactors had a campsite set up behind the monument.
The SCV is an international heritage organization for men who have an ancestor that served honorably in the Confederate Army or Navy.
