Over the river

The Community Playhouse, Inc. is moving into its 58th year of providing live theater entertainment for Tullahoma and the surrounding communities. During its recent End of the Year Annual Picnic and Membership Meeting, playhouse members elected new officers for the year and the 2012-2013 season of plays was announced.

Over the River and Through the Woods is the first show of the 2012-2013 Season for the Community Playhouse.  Dates for the performances are set for November 9, 10, 11 and 16, 17, 18, 2012. Steve Cagley of Winchester will direct the show and has announced auditions as follows: Saturday, September 8 (9-11 a.m.); Sunday, September 9 (2 -4 p.m.); and Monday, September 10 (callbacks from 7 – 9 p.m.).  Parts for three men (two older, one younger) and three women (two older, one younger) are available.   Auditions will be held at South Jackson Civic Center in Tullahoma.

The play, written by Joe DiPietro, tells the story of Nick, a single, Italian American guy from New Jersey whose parents retired and moved to Florida leaving him as a focus for his four grandparents who still live in New Jersey and with whom he eats dinner every Sunday.  This is routine until he has to tell them that he’s been offered a dream job – one that will take him away from his beloved but annoying grandparents.  The news doesn’t sit so well with them.  How could he betray his family’s love to move to Seattle, for a job, wonder his grandparents?  Thus begins a series of schemes to keep Nick around.  Frank, Aida, Nunzio and Emma do their level best, and that includes bringing to dinner the lovely – and single – Caitlin O’Hare as bait.  This proves to provide a hilarious family comedy, loaded with laughs and poignancy.  It is sure to bring awareness to audiences of their own family relationships.

Season tickets are on sale now with prices set as follows:  Adults, $40; Seniors and Students, $35; and Children (12 and under), $25.  To assure the best seats available, people are encouraged to purchase season tickets early.  For information about how to purchase tickets call one of the playhouse numbers:  931-581-7767 or 931-455-0620.
