Over 200 band students came together from across the county recently to spend a day of music making.

Band students from Lincoln County High School, the Ninth Grade Academy, Highland Rim, Blanche, Unity, and South Lincoln all joined forces to rehearse during the school day, then give a public performance to a packed audience in the gymnasium at NGA that evening.

Programs for the day included performances from a combined beginning band, combined advanced band made up of sixth through ninth graders, LCHS Concert Band, LCHS and NGA Combined Concert Band and the LCHS Jazz Ensemble.

Directors from each school are Lorie Enloe, Highland Rim; Mary Ellen Hovik, Blanche; Mike Mynatt, South Lincoln; Elyssa Clayton, Unity; and Johnathan Johnson, NGA and LCHS.

Organizers extended a special thanks to Sarah Wallace and Chad Carter, principals at LCHS and NGA, respectively, as well as the staff at NGA for making this event possible. Thanks is also extended to John Fanning, assistant to the director of schools and 9-12 instructional supervisor, for supporting the Lincoln County school music programs.

Local music students are busy preparing for upcoming performances. On May 2, the final spring Band Booster meeting at LCHS will begin at 6 p.m. On May 4, the Spring Band and Chorus concert at NGA auditorium will get underway at 6 p.m. On May 9, 6-8 travel band preview concert will be held with location and time to be announced.
