Obituaries for July 24 edition

Lizzie Weaver Bradley, 66, of Fayetteville, died Monday (July 15, 2013) at Lincoln Medical Center. Ms. Bradley is preceded in death by her husband, Leslie Bradley, Sr.; parents, Josiah and Jane Byrd Weaver. She is survived by her son, Leslie Bradley, Jr., of Fayetteville; daughters, Tammy Bradley and Cindy Sullivan, both of Fayetteville, and Donna Sims of Weogufka, Ala.; granddaughter, Megan Sullivan of Fayetteville; grandsons, Jamie Bradley and Dylan Sullivan, both of Fayetteville; sister, Bessie Gable of Talladega, Ala.; and a host of nieces and nephews. Wilma Cunningham, 88, of Tullahoma, formerly of Fayetteville, died Monday evening (July 15, 2013) in Tullahoma Life Care Center. A native of Lincoln County, Mrs. Cunningham was the daughter of the late Willie Massey and Josephine Pickett Cunningham. She was a retired nurse and member of the Estill Springs Methodist Church. Survivors include one daughter, Edna Reeves of Tullahoma; one sister, Rebecca Raby of Fayetteville; three grandchildren, Sara Danielle Reeves of Tullahoma; Hannah Hammond of Houston, Texas, and Andrew David Reeves of Tullahoma; and one great-granddaughter, Scout Hohenberger of Houston, Texas. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Marie Hammond, and two sisters, Wanda Smith and Edna Blasingame. Funeral services were conducted Thursday afternoon at Higgins Funeral Home. Burial was in Riverview Memorial Gardens beside her husband, George Daniel Cunningham, Jr., who passed away in 1992. Higgins Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Mary Jane Knowles Gibson died Wednesday (July 17, 2013) at her home in Huntsville, Ala., just a few hours short of her 83rd birthday. A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 27, at 3 p.m. in the garden of the Church of the Nativity in Huntsville, after which the family will receive guests at the home of Charles and Suzy Naumann. Thomas “Jason” Gray, 47, of Bessemer, Ala., died Thursday (July 11, 2013). Survivors include his grandmother, Ora Belle Gray; his aunts, Joan Gray, Glenice Stone and husband, Nelson, Becky Farmer; his uncles, James “Henry” Gray and wife, Marsha, Johnny Pinkerton; and his half-brother, Adam Wright.  Visitation was Friday (July 19th) at Spry Funeral Home in Huntsville, Ala. The funeral service was conducted Saturday (July 20) at the Spry Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Jack Kelly officiating.  Burial followed in Green Valley Cemetery in Big Cove, Ala. Spry Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Hollis Wayne Hopkins, 76, of Fayetteville, died Saturday (July 20, 2013) in Huntsville Hospital. Mr. Hopkins was a native of Taft and was the son of the late Hurley and Maude Scott Hopkins. He was a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University, was a computer programmer for Redstone Arsenal and a member of the Church of Christ. Survivors include two daughter, Cindy (Joe) Lookenbill of Merritt Island, Fla., and Pam (Bill) Melvin of Huntsville, Ala.; five grandchildren, Miles Melvin, Holly Melvin, Maria Melvin, all of Huntsville, Jodie and Lee Lookenbill of Merritt Island; and one brother, Melvin Hopkins of Taft. Visitation with the family will be Wednesday morning from 10 until 11 a.m. at Higgins Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Higgins Funeral Home with Bro. Jim Black officiating. Burial will follow in Neely Cemetery. Higgins Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Roy H. Parks, III, 89, of Tullahoma, died Sunday (July 14, 2013) at Harton Regional Medical Center. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII and Korea and a retired chief storekeeper at ARO. Preceding him in death were his parents, Roy H. Parkes, Jr., and Mary B. Moore Parkes; wife, Frances Jeanette (Cobb) Parks; daughter, Kathryn Parks; daughter-in-law, Shirley Mines Parks; and brother, Robert J. and wife, Connie Parkes. Survivors include two sons, Roy H. Parks, IV, of Kissimmee, Fla., and Brian C. (Paulette) Parks of Lawrenceville, Ga.; daughter, Sherry Grissom of Tullahoma; brother, James P. “Skippy” (Martha) Parkes of Fayetteville; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Graveside services were held Thursday afternoon at Lynchburg Cemetery. Jennings Moore-Cortner Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Robbie Jane Smith, 75, of Dellrose, died Tuesday (July 16, 2013) in Lincoln Care Center. She was a native of Dellrose and the daughter of the late Dee and Lela May Hall Mullins. Mrs. Smith was a former employee of Lee Company and was a retired guard from Lincoln County Jail. She was a member of the Methodist Church. Survivors include her husband, Ralph Smith; son, Doyle (Stephanie) Smith; grandchildren, Chandler and Whitley Smith; brother, Thomas Mullins; and two sisters, Glendale Mullins and Ruby Dunivan, all of Dellrose. Funeral services were conducted Thursday afternoon at Higgins Funeral Home. Burial was in Shiloh Cemetery. Higgins Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Toney Ray Thompson, 61, of Ardmore, Ala., died Monday (July 15, 2013) at his home. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home, Ardmore, Ala., with Bro. Steve Hargrove officiating. Burial was in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Ardmore, Ala. Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
