Obituaries for Aug. 20 edition

Judith Kulburg Bracewell, 74, of Fayetteville, died Wednesday in an auto accident in Athens, Ala. A native of Camden, N.J., she was the daughter of the late Leslie Ervin and Anna Stubbs Kulburg. Ms. Bracewell was a registered nurse, a member of the First Presbyterian Church, attended Eckencar, and was very active in the Carriage House Players. Survivors include her son, Michael Shawn Bracewell and wife, Donna, of Petersburg; four grandchildren, Carmen Latham and Cori Honey, Rachel and Michael Shane Bracewell, great-grandchildren Juliana, Ava, Rose, and Kalila; and a host of other family and friends. Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at Higgins Funeral Home with Eck-Cleric Kathy Odell officiating. Burial was in Stateline Cemetery. Higgins Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Laura Ethel Buchanan, 80, of Fayetteville, passed away Saturday morning (Aug. 16, 2014) at her residence. Mrs. Buchanan was born July 23, 1934 to the late Roy Lee and Ophelia Berry Jennings. She retired from Amana-Goodman after 27 years. A wonderful cook, she worked for Bar-B-Q Shack, Trotter’s, Angus Restaurant, and the Country Club. Lincoln County enjoyed her love of cooking great food. She was noted for her unusual laugh! She could be heard in a loud crowd. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy Lee and Ophelia Berry Jennings, brothers and sisters Freddie, Roy, John, Crystal, Bennie and Willie. She leaves a daughter, Dorris J. Wright; grandchildren Mitizi O. Wright, Jeffery D. Wright, Shoman Wright, Michael C. Wright; great-grandchildren Chana C. Hampton, Emontae Wright, Zakyus Tate, Jamoryan D. Buchanan, Shanila M. Wright, Jalen L. Buchanan, Aniyah Sledge, Aleah Ashby, Shamichael Buchanan, Mikeal Buchanan; and great-great grandson Demarcus L. Hampton-Bailey. She is also survived by brothers Robert L. (Louise) Jennings of Springfield, Mass., Ronnie McGee of San Antonio, Texas, sisters-in-law Mary Jennings of Huntsville, Ala., Virginia Jennings of Tullahoma, Annie J. Suggs, Barbara (Gilbert) Kibble, Brenda of California, Linda of Huntsville, Ala., David (Joyce) Buchanan, and a host of nieces and nephews. Special family support, Corrine Small, Andre Edmiston, Maureen Reese, Paula Thomas, JoAnn Hurluson, June McDonald. The entire family of the Fayetteville First Seventh Day Church. Funeral services were conducted Sunday at 4 p.m. at Higgins Funeral Home, with Pastor Theodore Brown officiating. Burial followed in Kelso Cemetery. Higgins Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

James Gary Maddox, 73, of Toney, Ala., died on Wednesday (Aug. 13, 2014) at Crestwood Medical Center in Huntsville, Ala. Born Sunday, June 29, 1941, in Fayetteville, he was the son of the late James Odie Maddox and the late Annie Florence Whitt Maddox. He was an avid Tennessee football and Atlanta Braves baseball fan. He lived most of his life in the Ardmore area, enjoyed working and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Surviving are his wife, Judy Clem Maddox of Toney; sons, Eric Maddox of Nashville, Matthew Maddox of Hazel Green, Ala., and Timothy Clem of Ardmore; daughters, Angela Purtle of Huntsville, Ala., and Jennifer Maddox; brothers, Johnny Maddox of Fayetteville, Phillip Maddox of Fayetteville and Larry Maddox of Fayetteville; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Saturday morning at Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home, Ardmore, Ala., with Bro. Eric Lones officiating. Burial was in Gatlin Cemetery, Ardmore, Ala. Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Billy Freeman O’Neal, 86, of Ardmore, died Wednesday (Aug. 13, 2014) at Donalson Care Center in Fayetteville. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home. Burial was in Blanche Cemetery. Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
