NGA ladies remain unbeaten at 8-0

Ninth Grade Academy’s Lady Falcons improved their record to 8-0 last week.

On Friday at home, the ladies handled Forrest. Monday night, they won on the road over Moore County.

The Lady Falcons have averaged 59 points a game so far and defeated opponents by an average of 31. Coach Sherry Horton has given her bench a lot of minutes throughout the season.


The ladies had an easy time in their 62-39 win over the Lady Rockets’ JV.

Against the Lady Rockets, the ladies had control of the game from the opening tip-off, leading 18-8 at the end of one. With Coach Horton playing nine girls in the first half, the ladies were up 35-18 at the break.

In the second half, everyone got minutes on the floor. The Lady Falcons won the second half, 27-21, to finish with the win.

Ten ladies put points on the board with Samantha Williams leading with 15; Brianna Sanders, 10; Sy Buchanan, 9; McKinley Fitch and Lauren Gower, 6; Kayla Parks, 5; Rebecca Lewter and Darian Norman, 4; Karla Lua, 2; and Bethany Lamon had 1.

Moore County

On Monday of last week, the ladies won over Moore County’s JV, 78-13. It’s their second win of the season over the Lady Raiders.

It was all Lady Falcons for the full 32 minutes with the mercy rule in effect in the second half.

Coach Horton went to her bench in the first quarter.

The ladies were up 23-2 at the end of one and 43-9 by the break.

The second half went to the Lady Falcons, 34-4, for the win.

Twelve ladies added points to the board. Brianna Sanders led with 14; Samantha Williams, 13; McKinley Fitch, 9; Bethany Lamon and Karla Lua, 7; Julie Dunn, 5; Rebecca Lewter, Lauren Gower and Kayla Parks, 4; Chelsea Gatlin and Shy Buchanan, 3.

NGA was 24 of 38 from the paint and 7 of 14 from the arch. From the line, the ladies were 9 of 21.

The ladies won the boards, 31-12. The Lady Raiders finished with 22 turnovers; the Lady Falcons had 18. Buchanan had 10 steals. As a team, the ladies finished with 23.

For their next action, the ladies were to host Shelbyville on Monday.
