NGA Falcons win over ‘Cats

Ninth Grade Academy’s Falcons put probably their most complete game of the season together Thursday night. The Falcons defeated Giles County, 63-28.

On Monday, the Falcons went down on the road to Shelbyville. NGA’s boys’ record stands at 2-2.

Three minutes into the game, the Falcons were off to a quick start, up 10-2. At the end of one, NGA was up 14-7.

After trailing 30-16 at the break, it seemed the Bobcats were staging a comeback, cutting the lead inside 10 points, 30-21, with 6:13 in the third. But, that was a close as it would get. The Falcons went 9 of 10 from the line in the eight minutes. Eli Eason went 6 for 6.

NGA dominated the fourth period, 20-3, for the win. Coach Horton played into her bench early with her roster of eleven all getting minutes – nine added points to the board.

Shelton Smith led with 12 points. Ryan Hall had 11; Eli Eason, 10; Dylan Anderson, 7; Blake Bassham and Nick Barnes, 6; Tyler McCown and William Arnold, 4; and Austin Bennett had 3.

The Falcons were 21 of 49 from the paint, 1 of 7 from the arch and 18 of 27 from the line.

NGA had 17 turnovers to 8 for the Bobcats. The Falcons dominated the boards, 37-19.


On Monday of last week, the Falcons went down on the road in Shelbyville, 41-28.

NGA got off to a slow start and never established a rhythm. Shelbyville shot the ball well, going 11 for 11 from the paint, 5 of 6 from the arch and 4 for 4 from the line.

Ryan Hall led for the Falcons with 10. Blake Bassham and Shelton Smith had 5; Tyler McCown and Eli Eason, 3; and Nick Barnes scored 2.

NGA was 8 of 23 from the paint and 4 of 11 from the arch. The Falcons didn’t take a shot from the line.

The Eagles won the boards, 24-22. NGA had 16 turnovers to 3 for Shelbyville.

For their next action, NGA travels to Lawrence County on Monday for a boys’ only match-up. Thursday, the Falcons host Moore County. Game times are at 6 p.m.
