Area residents are advised to beware of cell phone scams that are now surfacing.
Last week, a local resident was called by a man claiming to be a representative for Verizon Wireless. That resident was told, as a valued customer, she was eligible to receive a $50 credit on her account.
She was asked for her zip code and later in the conversation for her password.
A few days later, an authentic Verizon representative contacted the cell phone holder to verify a Chicago address to which two new cell phones...
