Wandalene Carter was pleasantly surprised recently when she received a letter from President Barack Obama, who replied to her solution to the BP oil spill.
Carter, 78, learned how to be practical while growing up in Lincoln County over the years. She said that when she was growing up you just didn’t throw something out when it wore out. In her family, they would melt down rubber rims from old fruit jars and pour the liquid rubber into old dish pans or galvanized tubs that had holes in them to stop the leak.
