With the qualifying deadline for August elections now just five weeks away, it looks as though some county races will be contested, including the Lincoln County mayor’s seat for which two candidates have qualified.
Bill Newman, current county mayor, and Rick Head, a commissioner representing District 3, have both qualified for the county mayor’s race that will be on the ballot Aug. 2 when the county general and state primary elections will be held.
Other county-wide office holders, the incumbents, are not seeing any challengers yet for their seats. Those include Murray Blackwelder for sheriff, Tim Gill for road superintendent, Mary Jane Porter for trustee, Lisa Simmons for circuit court clerk, Phyllis Counts for county clerk, and Randy Delap for register of deeds.
