Missing teen found alive after climbing from ravine

A 19-year-old young man was able to climb out of a deep ravine and then discovered by a passerby earlier this afternoon just off Interstate 65 about a mile south of the Alabama-Tennessee state line.

Tyler Campbell, who had been the focus of an exhaustive search by area authorities, was found alive, alert, and talking, said Lincoln County Sheriff Murray Blackwelder from the scene about 3 p.m.

“This is a wonderful thing,” said the sheriff, eluding to fears that he and others experienced as they searched for Campbell in the days following his disappearance Saturday night.

Campbell climbed out of a 30-foot deep ravine, despite a broken leg and shoulder, which he sustained when his 1997 Dodge truck left the interstate roadway Saturday night following a church event in nearby rural Giles County.

The young man was transported to Huntsville Hospital from the scene where he was found about 2:30 this afternoon. More than 100 people had been searching for him in rural Giles and Lincoln counties since Sunday morning.
