A local man was rescued nearly two hours after his vehicle plunged into the icy Elk River early Saturday morning.
Lincoln County Swift Water Rescue Team, along with Emergency Management, Emergency Medical Services, Sheriff Murray Blackwelder, Police Chief Richard Howell, Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency and the Molino Fire Department responded the scene about 7:37 a.m.
Ellis Dickey Malone, 64, was inside a newer model black GTO in the river that had begun to fill with water.
Kathy Hovis, EMA deputy director, stated that Lynell Cox let rescuers use his boat to go to the vehicle, which was up against the dam at Harms.
“The Swift Water Team had to break the back window of his car and pull him out,” said Hovis.
Malone had been inside the vehicle for close to two hours. He was flown by helicopter to Huntsville Hospital, where he was treated for hypothermia and frostbite.
