Lynchburg kicks off Christmas season

Posted on Thursday, November 14, 2013 at 3:25 pm

If shopping is your favorite sport, or if Christmas is your favorite season – get ready.

It’s kickoff time in Lynchburg. Beginning at 10 a.m. on Nov. 16, Lynchburg merchants will be rolling out the welcome mat.

Start the day by picking up a Merchant Participation Card at the Moore County News.

Get the card stamped while visiting stores with a picture of a stocking displayed in their window. Return the completed card to The News office between 1 and 3 p.m. to receive the 2013 Lynchburg Collectors Ornament.

This year’s ornament is a stocking, which is the theme of the event. Also available for purchase while supplies last are the 2011 and 2012 ornaments.

While visiting participating stores, shoppers are encouraged to register to win the “Lynchburg Stocking” which is filled with over $400 in gifts from local merchants. The drawing will be at 3 p.m. at the Moore County News office.

An advance peek is available on the Chamber website www.lynchburgtn.com and on their Facebook page.

From 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., Moore County High School students, who are preparing to enter healthcare occupations, will be wrapping gifts in a space next to the Moore County News.

As if this unique and convenient shopping experience is not enough, the Moore County Genealogical and Historic Society is conducting the annual Tour of Homes. This year’s tour will include the first Moore County Library, the beautiful homes of Jeff and Nicole Norman, Steve and Gloria Dickert, Chad and LeEllen Carter and the Cedar Cabin, where visitors can register for a free night’s stay. Tickets are $15 per person and can be purchased at the Old Jail Museum on Tuesday through Friday from 12 until 3 p.m. On Nov. 16, the day of the tour, the Old Jail will open at 9 a.m.

A complete schedule of events can be found in the Moore County News and at www.lynchburgtn.com
