Lincoln County High School’s tennis team wrapped up its regular season and district tournament last week.

Thursday, the District 8AAA Individual Tournament was held in Shelbyville.

Daniel Selfridge finished as runner-up in singles action and advances to the region tournament to be held May 13 at Old Fort Park in Murfreesboro.

Chelsi Wheat and Lauren Gower finished as runner-up in the girls’ doubles and have advanced to the region tournament as well.

“Chelsi and Lauren almost beat a team that has been playing together for two years,” said Coach Jonathan Brown. “They had a shot at it and could have won that match in the future.

selfridge advanced to finals

Daniel Selfridge advanced to the championship round of the individual District 8-AAA Tournament action and earned a spot at the region tournament to be held at Old Fort Park in Murfreesboro.

“Daniel had a shot at it as well, but Smotherman from Shelbyville was clearly the best player at the tournament. He’ll play Taylor Grulman from Siegel, and Chelsi and Lauren will play Ashlee Boles and Marissa Kovach from Siegel in the region.

“Also I can’t say enough about the improvement of Matthew Posey,” Coach Brown added. “He went from playing 7 or 8 last year to competing with the district champion in the semifinals. Without his improvement, we would have not finished the season with a winning record.

“Both the guys and girls finished with a 6-4 record, as well,” continued Brown. “The guys will be the four seed in the team district in Shelbyville on Tuesday. The girls will play in Tullahoma, probably Friday, but that has not been confirmed yet.”
